However, this name was considered, albeit incorrectly, to be of Turkish origin and so in 1955 the settlement was renamed Pedinos, due to the lowland location in which it was built. Pedinos, which is now called Paleo Pedinos, although it was almost completely abandoned, managed to remain alive, keeping its traditional character unchanged. The old stone mansions, with their impressive stone-carved decorative motifs and their traditional architecture, adorn the quiet cobbled streets of the settlement. In recent years, many of the mansions have been restored and are now used as summer residences. In the old, cobbled square, a large plane tree and a covered fountain, dating from 1950, welcome visitors to the heart of the village. Every summer, on the 6th of August, on the Feast of the Redeemer, a service is held in the catholicon of the Monastery of Alexopyrgos and a traditional festival is organized in the village square, with singing and dancing
